Behind the Books
The idea for The Joshua Files began after I read Breaking the Maya Code, Michael Coe's extraordinary account of the decipherment of Maya writing, and how a teenage boy was part of the team that cracked the code. I became fascinated by the idea that lost civilisations might still have secrets capable of changing our understanding of history.
While recovering from a serious skiing accident, I finally had the uninterrupted time to begin writing. That first manuscript eventually evolved into Invisible City, launching a series that would be translated around the world.
Reading Order
The Joshua Files is a saga best enjoyed by reading the books in order. The prequel - The Descendant Code - is set between Invisible City and Ice Shock, but features different characters, some of which appear in the last book of the series. You can read it before the whole series or afterwards - The Descendant Code works as a standalone novel set in the Joshua Files universe.
